Call of Duty 4 achieves 10 million in sales
Activision‘s Call of Duty 4 may not have seen a Wii release, but that hasn’t stopped the game from topping sales charts. Infinity Ward has revealed during an inquiry that their FPS has recently achieved 10 million in total sales. More details regarding this matter are available in the full article.
Infinity Ward studio head Vince Zampella has stated during a recent inquiry that Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, DS) has just broken the 10 million mark in sales. If you figure in NPD’s sales reports from last April, that would indicate that CoD4 managed to sell roughly one million copies in a span of two months.
Zampella further adds that CoD4‘s map pack add-on has clocked in a total of 1.5 million sales since its release. As a recap, CoD4‘s Variety Map Pack will include an assortment of additional maps for the player’s multiplayer bouts, including the Broadcast and the Creek maps. Zampella notes that the game itself is expected to sell more by this Christmas.
On a related note, Zampella also commented regarding the possibility of CoD4 potentially performing better in the market had it been ported to the Wii console. According to him, Infinity Ward felt the game might be compromised had it been included on Nintendo’s platform.
CoD4‘s upcoming sequel, now under development by Treyarch, has been confirmed for the Wii console, as well as the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and DS. Whether its much larger platform base will allow it to exceed its predecessor’s sales figures, however, remains to be seen.
