Campers at PS3 launch robbed at gunpoint
Okay, the camp-out for Sony’s PS3 launch is starting to look like that tour route in Jurassic Park. If you stray from the route, you’re dead meat. Take these three guys for instance. They strayed from the line, and what happened to them? They got mugged.
The whole incident happened at SpringfieldÂ’s Gateway Mall area near the Circuit City store at about 3 a.m., Thursday. The victims were camped outside, waiting in line for the PS3 launch. According to police, the victims left the line and were walking by a nearby Target store when two men wearing “some sort of masks” accosted them.
David Dardano, one of the victims, said, “One cocked a gun and said, ‘Don’t move! Don’t reach for anything.’ And after that he led us to this back entrance to Target and they separated us, me and Taylor, here. One guy had a blunt object, took our stuff. Alex, over there, got taken at gunpoint and they took his wallet and then ran off.”
The authorities were able to follow the robbers’ escape path with the help of Gateway Mall’s surveillance cameras. They managed to recover some of the stolen items including a wallet, but the suspects are still at large.
The lesson here? Don’t ever leave the safety of the line. “The line is your friend.” Or maybe it’s, “Camping out for console launches is hazardous to your health and financial well-being.” It’s certainly one of those two, so for all of you out there who are braving the elements and man’s baser instincts, hang tight and be careful. You’ll be rewarded soon enough.
