The Xbox 360 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will be spread across two discs, compared to the single Blu-ray disc for the PS3 version. It’s not a new practice, but it’s something developer Mercury Steam believes should be looked into by Microsoft.

“I think it’s something Microsoft are going to experience more and more – that they need to help developers overcome the storage problem,” said studio boss Dave Cox in an interview with Xbox World 360 magazine.

Mercury Steam is doing all it can for Lords of Shadow, though, and according to Cox Microsoft knows that. “Microsoft actually sent their tech guys to the studio to see the game and look at [how we’re] compressing it, but they said: ‘Okay, it’s good. You’re doing all you can.’,” he said.

To remedy the disc-swapping, Mercury Steam is letting Xbox 360 owners install everything on the first disc to their consoles. Choosing to install will let gamers play using only the second disc.

Cox revealed that the game will run for about 24 hours long but clarified that despite Hideo Kojima’s involvement with the title, the cutscenes aren;t really that long.

“They’re pretty short,” he said. “Our longest one is 14 minutes, which is the end sequence… The game’s around 24 hours long and every level’s different. We have so much variety and we re-use very little assets.”
