Chelsea Intermediate School makes Nintendo Wii part of P.E. curriculum
While some people have claimed that a Nintendo Wii weight loss program actually works, others have taken that a step further by using the console to promote the physical education of an entire school.
Just ask Dan Prorok and his fellow gym teachers at Chelsea Intermediate School – they’ve implemented Wii gaming as part of the physical education curriculum. More on this new approach to physical education after the jump!
While some people have taken to using the Wii to promote reading, Dan Prorok and other gym teachers at Chelsea Intermediate School are using the Nintendo Wii to extol the values of physical education.
This is being done by implementing Wii gaming as part of the physical education curriculum. Prorok and his colleagues reportedly had no problem convincing school officials of the physical benefits of Wii play, so much so that they invested in seven Nintendo Wiis and twenty-eight controllers, plus the appropriate Wii Sports game.
Needless to say, the kids thought it was an great idea. According Dan Prorok, having the Wiis in gym class was his way of beating the enemy at its own game, “They’re going to play video games anyway, we might as well steer them to the right ones.”
He also cited the friendliness of the Nintendo console, saying: “That’s why I love Nintendo games, they’re not like shooting games. I mean how can Mario be mean?”
