Christalynne the Quake whiz kid
This one should put an end to all the senseless stereotyping women get across the gaming industry/community. We all know girl gamers exist and sadly, some wayward individuals think that they are only good as booth babes. There’s one very crooked thinking existing in the gaming world – girl gamers are all geeks and ugly.
Well, not Christalyne. A little more than one year ago, she went head-to-head against the famous Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel at QuakeCon. While she didn’t win, she currently holds the record of getting the highest score against the guy. Aside from that, she has always been a staple at various tournaments all around the country. The catch? She is just eight years old.
Actually, Christalyne was influenced by her parents who themselves are gamers as well. Her mother, for instance, was once part of the all-female development team Artemis Software and gaming clan QGirlz. Her father on the other hand, lead Quake 4 mod, Delta CTF.
Her mother has always maintained that FPS games are not all about violence. She explained, “they recognize the combat in FPS games, like Quake, in the same manner as a board game like chess. It isn’t depicting violence, it is a game of strategy.” Quite remarkably, Christalyne only spends three to five hours a day playing videogames. She spends most of her time writing storylines for games she plans to develop in the future.
To date, she already had accomplished three unique IPs and is working on some more. Her mother, lastly, maintains that she will support Christalyne if she wants to become a developer or even a pro gamer in the future.
