Homebrew - cIOS Patchmii Installer v2 - Image 1Although waninkoko‘s cIOS custom firmware installer is a popular program, some circles in the Wiibrew community prefer not to use it.

As an alternative, Wiibrew dev tona has provided cIOS PatchMii Installer, an alternative to waninkoko’s cIOS program. Unlike waninkoko’s program, PatchMii doesn’t require you to have the specific IOS WAD to install. Instead, it downloads the existing IOS37 from Nintendo’s servers, patches it, and installs it as IOS249.

The program acts as both installer and uninstaller. If you run the program and it detects IOS249 already installed on your system, it will uninstall it for you. It’s basically like an on and off switch.

Tona seems to be making a habit out of making clones of waninkoko’s programs. He has also released an alternative to waninkoko’s Wii Region Changer before (check out AnyRegion Changer in the related articles). Here’s how tona describes the differences between PatchMii, and waninkoko’s cIOS:

All of the patches are the same as in Waninkoko’s cIOS.

Although I haven’t checked, I’d be willing to bet that the patched IOS modules have the same produced sha-1 hash as Waninkoko’s installer generates. Except for Content 0.
