It’s been seven years since we last heard from Yuri and his Soviet cronies. However, Electronic Arts has finally announced the return of one of its most beloved and best-selling RTS franchises with Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3.

While hints of this highly anticipated sequel were already seen on the cover of PC Gamer magazine, EA revealed a lot of juicy tidbits that the new Red Alert game will be sporting.

The new game will explore an alternate timeline in the Red Alert canon as a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time to change history and restore the glory of Mother Russia. Also, gamers can expect a new faction thrown into the mix in the form of the Empire of the Rising Sun.

Red Alert 3 will mostly be a “What If?” kind of game which looks into the possibilities the first two games didn’t cover. Classic technologies like Tesla coils, teleportation, and time traveling will be supplemented by new innovations like armored bears, floating island fortresses and… get this, intelligent dolphins!

Some of the interesting features that will be making its way into the game include a first ever heard of co-op campaign mode, a focus on the naval combat aspects, and all the Kalashnikov designer rifles a Command & Conquer game can hold.

Those of you who are interested in taking a sneak peek at the game can get early access to the beta version by picking up a copy of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath which will be released later this year.
