Cory Barlog speaks on God of War III direction, departure from Sony
After months of silence, God of War II director Cory Barlog finally spoke up. He recently talked about God of War III and described the direction the series would go even after he and David Jaffe left. He also talks about what he’s busy with these days. All that and more in the full article.
After keeping a low profile in the aftermath of his departure from Sony, God of War II director Cory Barlog finally spoke up and gave comments about issues gamers wanted to hear about. This includes the future of the God of War series and what he’s up to these days.
Barlog took on the reins of the God of War series after first director David Jaffe left the team and started his own studio. Doubts were initially cast on the sequel, but Barlog surpassed all expectations when he busted out another epic encounter with Kratos and the Greek gods, earning critical and commercial success along the way.
“The Sony Santa Monica team is one of the best teams I have ever worked with,” comments Barlog. “Also, immediately after I finished God of War II, I was already working on the story and design for the third game.”
So when Sony and I finally did part ways the foundation of the game, along with story that completes the arc we began in God of War, was complete,” adds Barlog. “I wish I could have been there to see it through to the end, but it was just not meant to be I guess.”
Being slightly more specific on God of War III, the former director says “the story is going to finish off with a very big, very epic bang though. I think everyone will be quite pleased.”
Barlog says he’s currently working on several other things, and when asked about leaving Sony, he politely says “”For me, the whole departure from Sony was not exactly the ideal route that I wanted to go, but in the end I think it is the absolute best thing I could have ever done.”
