Creative Assembly: We’d love to do Total War on consoles but…
Creative Assembly, the guys responsible for Total War, would love to see it on the consoles. So why don’t they just totally do it? Seems like the consoles’ specs aren’t enough for them.
Total War would be great on consoles, don’t you think? Well if you agree, then you’re in good company, cos the developers themselves, Creative Assembly, have professed that they would “love to do” the game on consoles.
Says Kevin McDowell, lead artist, “It’s something we’ve talked about a lot over the years, but nothing has really happened with it.” So they’d love to see it on the next-gens. What’s stopping them?
Lead programmer Davidson explained that while they would love to do it, converting the series to the console would be “an immense challenge”. See, Total War has got all this complex RTS battles apart from a very intricate campaign, so it’s definitely no walk in the park.
Apart from that, battle AI boss Richard Bull believe that the console lifespan would just be too short to make and fit a decent installment for Total War.
While fans out there hoping to get it on their consoles soon may not have their wish granted for now, they will have the chance to get the game on their PCs. The newest installment, Empire: Total War, will be coming out in February 6, 2009, and will feature fully-implemented naval warfare and other features, including “a brand new historical setting” between 1700 and 1800.
