Cruising around town: MPO recruitment video demo
Personally, I don’t know why, but the whole Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops recruitment via Hotspot reminds me of the Monster Rancher heyday. Not that it’s anything sorely bad, but the concept of finding/collecting different recruits by going around hotspots tugs at familiar strings in my heart that scream “insert a CD to get this so-and-so monster!” Anyways, this feature is still one of Konami‘s strongest selling points in MPO and it’s not one that I could complain about.
Risking his life to catch these shots for the sake of gamers everywhere, Steveo sent in a couple of his videos of the MPO GPS soldier recruitment feature in action. At first, we thought that Steveo was filming his spin-off version of “Cops” as he was driving around with his PSP built onto the dashboard of his car, but of course, that’s not the case. Here’s some tech-notes from Steveo himself:
I’m running on 1.5 FW with 3.1 Devhook emulation. I picked up the receiver from a Japanese import video game store in Los Angeles last Friday. It only cost me 60 bucks plus tax. I’ve also tried this on Deniska’s Map This and did not get it to work. I’m going to try it on Homestar Portable now….
With that said, on to the vids!
