calypsoUp until E3, David Jaffe had been employing clever misdirection to shroud the existence of the new Twisted Metal. But now that Sweet Tooth’s hair has officially caught fire again, Jaffe Tweets away and reveals more details about his latest work.

The biggest reveal is the game’s emphasis on multiplayer, which Jaffe describes to be its “bread and butter”. In the new Twisted Metal, there will be four factions: Clowns, Dolls, Skulls, and Holy Men. Each vehicle will be represented by your selected faction, and one man will be designated as the driver, the other will be a gunner.

Unlike the formula that we’ve all gotten used to, this multiplayer set-up does not have a preset driver with every vehicle. “You will not have 16 unique characters for each of the 16 vehicles,” Jaffe wrote.

Thankfully, developers will still place strong emphasis on local multiplayer. “We would never abandon it,” he pointed out. “It’s a KEY aspect of any TM game.”

As for the story, Jaffe wasn’t too keen on revealing too much, but he did let out some info on the series’ verbal wish monster, Calypso. “Yes, he’s still a ‘be careful what u wish 4’ kind of prick :),” Jaffe said. “Can’t say without giving too much away. But NOT (Twisted Metal Black) Calypso at all. Really didn’t love that spin on him.”
