Did Gran Turismo HD downloads overload PlayStation Network servers?

Come on! How do you expect me to get my GTD with all this traffic! There’s a story going about that (a) Gran Turismo HD seems to have been released onto the PlayStation Store earlier than planned, and (b) the traffic of people who flocked to the store to download it was so heavy, it’s currently knocked out the PlayStation Network. It’s the subject of a thread in the official PlayStation forums where people are moaning about error code 8002A280.

No wonder we’ve been having a few hangups checking for demos this morning – “Hey, free GTHD, let’s check it out… Oh crap, why won’t this (garbled dialogue) sign on?!?!?!”

People who’ve called up customer service, assistance, help, or whatever Sony calls it, say that they’ve been told that the network has been too busy as of late. Combine that with reports of a rather early Christmas gift from Polyphony Digital and the presumption is KABOOM, and we quote, “Everyone, their dog, grandmother, and little sister is downloading that at the moment. Sounds like they need a few thousand more servers.”

Let’s hope the traffic clears up within the day. Maybe they can swing by a store and pick up a few thousand more servers.
