EA’s voting shares doubles, owns more stakes in Ubisoft
Early in June, the game industry was tiptoe-ing on a major powerhouse fusion when news flooded out that a fifth of Ubisoft‘s total voting shares were owned by superstar game publisher Electronic Arts. Today, however, news coming in from market regulator Autorité des Marchés Financiers (or AMF France) hint that it could be more than just a possibility for the second time running.
According to AMF, Electronic Arts has just gained more voting shares in Ubisoft Entertainment. EA Nederland now holds 24.86% of voting stakes in Ubisoft Entertainment, coupled with the ownership of 15.37% of the French publisher’s capital. Although the North American publisher never acquired additional shares from Ubisoft since August 3, 2005, EA Nederland’s voting rights have doubled for the old shares it has owned for more than two years.
To date, Electronic Arts Nederland owns 6.99 million shares, translating to 13.98 million votes instantly, within Ubisoft. Electronic Arts gave official word that it reserves the right to further increase its stake in Ubisoft over the next year, subject to decisions and conditions of the market.
As of press time, EA is not seeking to nominate their own board members for Ubisoft, but local market analysts believe that EA can and may change that decision easily when they see fit. More industry news as they come in.
