Easy Wii game composition coming with Virtools’ Wii Solutions 1.1
Remember back when two dudes worked around an exploit in Zelda: Twilight Princess to run unsigned code on the Nintendo Wii? Well then this bit of news might be interesting to those who knows what such developments would mean for them. Virtools, creators of the simple drag-and-drop development software for computers, has just made their Wii Solutions a better tool to easily to develop and instantly run applications on the Wii.
Virtools‘ Wii Solutions, now at version 1.1, is the company’s newest tool set for their game development ware targeted at next-generation consoles. After Virtools’ revelation at the 2007 GDC, Virtools 4 matured well enough to join Dassault Systèmes’ more promising developer product line. And with Wii Solutions, it’ll be degrees easier to seamlessly create applications on your PC and run them on the Wii.
Well, it would be if you’ve got the cash to spare. Aimed at the developer market, Virtools is definitely not cheap, but with a Student Edition being offered, developing for the Wii is more accessible now. After all, game engines are also becoming the new teaching tool for budding game developers, from educational camps to full-fledged school courses.
Though it’s hard to say that this could be the glaring neon sign Wii homebrew’s been looking for, it is a step in the right direction. But because there’s a few more stepping stones that have to be touched along the way, that possibility has yet to come to full light. More developments on this as we get them.
