Epic Mickey: Why it’s silent, new screenshots

The presentation of Epic Mickey was nothing short of interesting, so to speak. Mostly because it lacked speaking parts or voiceovers. It sure was curious to see. After all, it’s not everyday we’re treated to a game that gets the silent treatment. But don’t worry, there’s a good reason why they ditched voice actors. Warren Spector of Disney explains why.
Mimicking Mickey Mouse’s voice over the mic at an E3 chat, “There’s something about that voice, you know,” Spector said. It was probably hard to keep up cause he immediately went back to his normal speaking voice. “It’s hard to accept that asa really big hero. I wanted people to accept this guy as a hero, and so I kind of made an early decision that he wouldn’t have speech in the game.
Besides, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is in it too (he’s one of the earliest characters to appear in Disney’s silent cartoon era). “In a world where Oswald is the ruler, it seemed appropriate that people don’t talk.”
Epic Mickey was originally planned to come out on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, but Wii came out as the lone winning platform of choice. Check out some of these new images for Epic Mickey from this year’s E3.
