So you think you already know all there is to know about Sam Fisher’s new game, Splinter Cell: Conviction? Think again, cos extra modes have just been revealed. You bet you’d want to know about them.
Apart from the staple Campaign and Co-op story mode, there’s also the Hunter, Last Stand, Face-Off, and Infiltration.
The Hunter mode is accessible for both co-op and solo play. Essentially, it’s Ubisoft’s own take on the Terrorist Hunt. Your goal is to wipe out all ten enemies on the map before they spot you — otherwise, they’ll call in for backup and then you’ll have more enemies being a royal pain. It’s stealth action at its finest. It’s available on all co-op locations too, and with two bonus locations to boot.
Last Stand, meanwhile, is a mode you can enjoy either by your lonesome or with a friend. Under your guard is an EMP device that you must protect against continuous waves of enemies. Think of it as the Horde mode from Gears of War 2.
As for Face-off, this would be the competitive multiplayer section, albeit mano-y-mano. The twist to this mode is that not only must you defend yourself from your opponent, you also have to be wary of other enemies who are on a mission to take both you and your one-on-one opponent out. Talk about tough luck.
Finally, there’s the Infiltration mode, an unlockable mode which has been described to be “a more realistic version of Hunter, where any detection automatically ends the match.”
Sounds mighty challenging, isn’t it? We’ll keep you posted as more details trickle out for this one.
Splinter Cell: Conviction comes out April 13, 2010.
