Five UK universities get XNA initial trial

XNA logoPerhaps one of the most ingenious ideas that Microsoft has ever come up with is the XNA Studio Homebrew for the Xbox 360. This early on, gazillions of people have showed major interest in making homebrew games for the said console and it looks like the number of eager participants who want to get on board won’t be dropping anytime soon.

In fact, the XNA phenomenon has become so widespread that even universities in UK are jumping on the bandwagon as well, seeing the XNA software as an excellent way to get their students to flex those creative muscles and get involved.

This bodes well for MS, who also intends on getting not just individual devs to developing games for the consoles, but also the larger population of students. That said, five UK universities were able to participate in the initial trial of the said software: Bradford, Hull, Belfast, Derby, and Nottingham. (Now THAT’s a reason to go to college!)

Dr. Ian Palmer, Head of Electronic Imaging and Media Communications (EIMC) at the University of Bradford, said:

WeÂ’re very pleased to be part of the initial launch of MicrosoftÂ’s XNA Game Studio Express. The software will provide our students with the opportunity to easily experiment with their ideas with the knowledge that they will be able to see their invention in reality.

Dr. Palmer also says that the XNA Studio Homebrew is a great chance for students to start devving without the financial burden. It’s amazingly funny though to see that the university heads are not the least bit worried that their students will get too much into devving…if you know what I mean. Hahaha. We’ll keep you posted for more.
