Tech demo of Fortress, GRIN’s Final Fantasy project, leaked?

Before GRIN closed down, it was said that it had a project in the works called “Fortress“. This game was supposed to be a Final Fantasy title which takes off after the events of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. Months after the Swedish developer closed down, this supposedly leaked tech demo of the game turns up on YouTube, described to be the very game that GRIN was working on.

The host of the vid, identifiable only via his YouTube page as William Mark Felt, Sr., a.k.a. DiipuSurotu, describes the vid as “an action game set some time after the events of FINAL FANTASY XII: REVENANT WINGS, and is intended for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows platforms.”

He goes on:

The project was originally developed by GRIN and supervised by Square Enix, but issues between the two companies led to GRIN going bankrupt and Square Enix reclaiming the project from them.

The project has not been officially announced yet, but its existence is known due to information leaked by former members of the development team and sources in the video game industry.

The Fortress project is still supported by Square Enix and in development at a currently undisclosed studio — possibly Eidos Montreal, Square Enix’s main Western branch.

Square Enix has yet to comment on the matter, but if this is indeed still a work in progress, it’s highly likely that the publisher would give us the usual runaround. The vid does resemble some of the concept art for Fortress, although the main character in the tech demo appears to be more of a placeholder than an actual protagonist.
