GAME Stores Group explains further its PS3 breakfast launch
Earlier today, we learned that European retailer GAME Stores Group Ltd. will no longer proceed with the planned midnight event at its Oxford Street store when the PlayStation 3 (PS3) launches on March 23. In lieu of this, the chain’s marketing director Anna Marcario mentioned that a breakfast launch will be held instead for their patrons.
The official cited police concerns for fans and shoppers in the said decision. Of course, this is just a matter of a few hours, but some fans don’t seem too eager with the move. That’s why Macario is now further explaining the course of action GAME Stores took. According to her, they consulted with the local police and it was the police who suggested that it would be best to cancel the midnight event.
The store will be opened at 9 a.m. for all consumers, while the first 150 people who pre-ordered will be treated to a little extra: bacon butties, pastries, coffee, and Sony goodie bags. The store will be welcoming these early birds at 7 a.m. sharp. Anna Marcario then commented,
The customer reaction to the arrival of the Sony PlayStation 3 really has been nothing short of phenomenal. With a huge range of titles available for launch and having so much more functionality than any other games console, our customers canÂ’t wait to get their hands on this incredible machine.
Another retailer HMV also announced that while its Oxford Street store will no longer hold a midnight event, its other 50 stores will commence with the original plan. Likewise, PS3 launch flagship store Virgin Megastores will push through with its scheduled midnight launch.
