GameStop revenue could be delayed along with GTA IV, says Pachter
Much to everyone’s dismay, Grand Theft Auto IV won’t be reaching the shelves ’til next year. Thus, a good chunk of GameStop‘s revenue will also be delayed, according to analyst Michael Pachter‘s expectations.
“We believe that the game would have driven hardware sales of at least US$ 100 million, and think that GameStop would have captured a similar market share [of 35 percent],” said Pachter. The retail giant would’ve enjoyed 35% of sales, leaving their vaults with around US$ 40 million if projected sales hold true.
Combined with increased hardware sales thanks to those that will grab a console for the game, Pachter saw US$ 50-80 million coming in when Rockstar lets the bomb go.
That isn’t to say GameStop will be hurting, because money a little bit late is still more dough in the pocket. GTA IV sales will still bring revenue up when it finally arrives, making the delay not “particularly meaningful” as Pachter puts it.
