Gaming 360 Podcast #5: GoW, EA-bashing, and more
This is an amazing podcast. They reviewed Gears of War fairly and honestly for 30+ minutes, then they tore EA a new hole for their marketing techniques, then they talked about the Rainbow Six demo… and that’s only half of the podcast right there.
One of the guys on this podcast, Darnnell Jeffers (aka HSK HeroReborn) was there at the Six Flags Gears of War event (the lucky guy got to meet Major Nelson). Yup, like Syracuse022 who made his own review, Darrnell also got to try GoW and he has his own honest review of how the game went. We listened to it (I listened very closely), because it’s worth listening to.
- more about the context-sensitive A button and gameplay in general
- the maps and the weapons (e.g., Hammer of Dawn)
- the “Mad World” trailer
- lots more
Of course, after all the honesty and good and bad, you have to admit a few things, and Darnnell speaks for all of us GoW fans: “It’s worth it; it’s worth every dollar.” “This is a game that since E3 2005 has stepped in the limelight and has never left.” “Believe the hype.”
As for Electronic Arts, well, you remember how they’re planning on selling you in-game fake money to use in the Godfather – but to get this in-game money, you have to pay EA some Xbox Live points. Yeah, that’s right. So they talked about how in Need for Speed: Carbon you have to buy the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34). Darnnell really sounded pissed that “one of the most respected cars” isn’t in the game unless you buy it from EA.
In other words, they share Victor B.‘s sentiment: EA is milking people for something they should have put in the game to begin with.
Anyway, back to the podcast. This was an enjoyable listen (this doesn’t have video):
- Gears of War NE Event Six Flags
- Gears of War Promo Video (song – Mad World – by Gary Jules)
- EA sells in-game cash on Live
- Dashboard Update — Problems
- Saints Row Update
- Rainbow 6 Demo
- Eragon Demo Hits Xbox Live
