GC: Killzone 2 Lean and Peek Demonstration gameplay video
With Killzone 2 setting the videogame community ablaze with spectacular visuals and high-end production values in its showing at E3, it certainly doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to figure out why information about the game’s features, while being kept tightly under wraps by Guerrilla Games, is of high demand. To cater to the more info-hungry among us, here’s a video of the game in action, captured in GC: Leipzig – and it’s about how you’ll be able to take advantage of your environment to survive.
In this video, we see how a player can use the game’s unique lean and peek system to effectively use cover. With a mere press of the SIXAXIS‘ L1 button, players can duck into low cover. While it certainly offers an improved defense – i.e. bullets not tearing into your soft body – you can’t really shoot your enemies in this state, right? That’s what the forward button is all about, which lets you stand clear of cover. Now you can attack, but there’s a problem – you’ve now left the safety of your cover, and thus are liable to get hit.
Fortunately, Killzone 2 also provides a happy median, in the form of blind firing. Simply press the fire button while holding the relevant shoulder button, and you’ll draw your gun to blindly fire above cover. Your aim is limited here, of course, but now you’re attacking while defending. Neat!
