Get Well Gamers: Games for the sick
Laughter is the best medicine.
Nursing a broken arm (leg, neck…choose your poison) from your latest Tony Hawk impersonation’s always a major bummer. Then there’s the weeks spent at your hospital bed just sitting there, staring out at the beautiful view…of the brick apartment in front of your window.
It doesn’t have to be this way, and with a little help from the Get-Well Gamers Foundation, you just might be able to kill time with the game of your choice.
Founded back in 2001, the Get Well Gamers Foundation is a California-based NGO that focuses on bringing in both PC and console games to kids recovering in hospitals. The group has noted that video games, aside from keeping the boredom blues away, actually helps dull pain from operations, and speeds up the healing process (hmm, I better tell my mom this…).
Being an NGO, Get Well Gamers receives the bulk of its gaming equipment and funding from donors willing to part ways with their consoles, like a Nintendo DS or Xbox 360 perhaps (lucky kids…), so long as the consoles and games are in proper working order.
Check out the link below for more info on how to contribute to Get Well Gamers. Just think: your donated copy of Dead Rising may help some poor kid cope with his/her skinned knee!
