Am sure you, along with millions of other Internet users found it a delightful surprise to find the Google insignia transformed into an actual playable Pac-Man map, in commemoration of the yellow icon’s 30th anniversary. So delightful indeed that it cost some 4.8 million hours of productivity.

This statistic was uncovered by RescueTime, productivity tracking and optimization software makers, as they saw that Friday activities on Google’s pages from it’s 11,000 users actually quadrupled this particular Friday.

And RescueTime popsts some other interesting findings about the success of the Pac-Man Google page:

  • 4,819,352 hours of time lost. This is above the 33.6 million man hours of attention Google gets on a regular day.
  • More than $120 million in lost productivity, assuming the cost of the average Google user is $25 an hour (that’s pay plus benefits.)
  • I like this quote the best: “For that same cost, you could hire all 19,835 google employees, from Larry and Sergey down to their janitors, and get 6 weeks of their time.”

Were you one of the casualties?
