Grand Theft Auto IV – for PS3 and Xbox360

Rockstar games have surely but silently announced their next GTA title for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Details on the PS3 version are sketchy…well, more like non-existant. It looks like Rockstar are keeping quiet about the PS3 version. GTA 4 is expected in stores in North America on October 16, 2007 and in Europe on October 19, 2007. GTA fans may be shocked at the announcement of GTA 4 being released on the same day for both PS3 and Xbox360, but it was bound to happen as Rockstar becomes more friendly with Microsoft.

Now for the 360 version. Rockstar have been a little more adventurous with this one, as Microsoft and Rockstar games have ‘forged an alliance’, and will provide Xbox Live downloadable content for the 360 version. “Through Xbox Live, we have a unique opportunity to reach out to our audience in new ways,” said Sam Houser, executive producer and founder of Rockstar Games. “This strategic alliance allows us to craft experiences that fully leverage the on-demand distribution power and sheer size of Xbox Live.”

The agreement to distribute exclusive Rockstar Games content via Xbox Live highlights the publishing communityÂ’s growing desire to feed gamersÂ’ insatiable appetite for downloading new high-definition experiences and playing online. Since Xbox Live launched, fans have logged nearly 1.8 billion hours playing online and have downloaded more than 18 million pieces of content in just the past six months.

Is this yet another sting in Sony’s tail? One of the most successful game franchises of all time is now multi-platform. Sony don’t have the bragging rights on this one. And the downloadable content? Will Sony announce something similar for the PS3? Who knows. Keep logged on the QJ.net for all the latest E3 coverage.
