Grand theft harpy: God of War III Q&A #3 teaches how to ride harpies, cyclopses, more

Gow3And the God of War III interviews continue! From the game director to the art director, we now have the design director. Here we have SCE Santa Monica’s Todd Papy talking about some of GoW3‘s new elements – more specifically, how to control the harpies and cyclopses. As he describes it, it’s like riding helicopters and tanks, respectively. Yeah, hijack that innocent harpy, why don’t ya? Video interview in the full article! It’s also got some insight on how they’ve tried to balance GoW3‘s gameplay pacing.

As he describes them, the harpies are like helicopters while the cyclopses work like tanks.

Hijacking rideable harpies and cyclopses? Heh. Sounds like Kratos is ancient Sparta’s counterpart for Liberty City’s Niko Bellic.

Now as a design director, one of Papy’s other tasks is to make sure that the pacing (in terms of gameplay, not necessarily story) is balanced – frustration levels in dying, ease of navigation in maps, checkpoints, and overall level design.
