Still having some trouble getting the hang of the whole build-making thingamajig? Well, no need to fret fellas because over at the Guild Wars site, they’ve just posted an article on Build Design 101 which gives us the lowdown on the process and gives us useful tips for designing a build in a Guild vs. Guild setting.

Now before you go making builds on your own, a brief primer on the metagame is necessary, so let’s start with explaining exactly what a metagame is. Here’s how the metagame works:

BLOCK QUOTE: In general terms, the metagame spreads from the top of the GvG ladder downward, encompassing common trends of the game, the mental approach of the PvP culture, tactics currently being used, and the types of skills popular at the moment. When a competitive player uses the term, he or she usually means: “What is currently prevalent in most GvG matches.” For example, right after the release of Nightfall, the metagame was Fire AoE damage combined with Rampage as One Ranger/Warrior thumpers.

The article then goes on to discuss the three basic approaches to build-making: running a meta-build, countering the metagame, and creating something that’s completely new and unconventional. However, to employ these basic approaches, you’re gonna have to be at least familiar with the current metagame. Makes sense, actually. How the heck are you supposed to change something when you don’t even know squat about it, right? So anyway, the Build Design 101 gives a lot of very useful tips that you might wanna check out including how to improve a build once you’ve successfully made one.

So if you don’t wanna mess up your build-making endeavor, we highly recommend you check out the Build Design 101 article which you can access via the read link below. We’ll keep you posted for more developments.
