Heroes is now No More Heroes

Grasshopper Manufacture logoYep, you read that right. But before the vague title leads to confusion, let us clear it up: no, the upcoming Wii game Heroes has not been cancelled, and no, the title of this post is not a bloody Engrish translation. It’s just that the game has undergone a few changes, including the title.

Heroes will now be known as No More Heroes, as IGN reports in a recent article. According to them, the latest Famitsu issue has revealed a few details about this upcoming game that’s currently brewing in Grasshopper Manufacture‘s labs. Here are some of the game features that Famitsu revealed:

Storyline: Players will take on the role of Travis Touchdown, an anime-loving geek who wins a Beam Katana (think Light Saber) through an online auction and uses it to start his new career as a professional killer.

After emerging victorious in a battle with Helter Skelter, a known assassin in the land, a French agent/recruiter gives him the 11th rank in the UAA (IGN speculates that this stands for United Assassins Association). The goal then is to kill the 10 others that rank before you in UAA.

Weapon and Controls: Set in the city of Santa Destroy, one of the main foci of No More Heroes is how you use your Beam Katana to defeat enemies. In the game, you use the Wiimote facing up, centered, or facing down, to move Travis into one of the three fighting positions in the game. Basic attacks are performed by pressing the A button.

In some cases, the controller is used more directly (example: when performing finishing moves, you’re required to swing the controller in accordance with on-screen prompts). You also have to shake the controller to power up your Beam Katana’s energy meter. Only one enemy/rival has been introduced so far, and that’s Shinobu, a school girl outfit-donning killer who ranks 8th in the UAA. Don’t be fooled by her “girly” get-up though, ‘coz with her deadly combat skills and a katana, she’s one of the foes you’ll have to look out for when playing the game.

Famitsu says that No More Heroes is currently just 35% complete, but Marvelous Interactive is said to be targetting a Summer 2007 Japanese release. No word on a U.S. version yet – stay tuned.
