Hirofumi Inagaki on Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
Namco Bandai sure has a lot “My First PS3 hardware experience” testimonials to share, and if Ridge Racer 7 designer Hideo Teramoto thought that it was difficult at first, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfirechief producer Hirofumi Inagaki says that “there are a lot of possibilities with the hardware”. He further adds that the features they previously wanted to put in games are now possible with the PS3, which is a good thing for both developers (because now, they can properly execute their brilliant ideas) and gamers (as they’ll have a better gaming experience).
Of course, that doesn’t mean figuring out the the intricacies of the processor was easy. It was really challenging as they started from scratch. But who doesn’t want a good challenge, right? Moreover, he says that the physics simulation of the Cell was really helpful, as it improved game realism.
Aside from being realistic, he says that one thing we can expect from the upcoming Gundam game is speed improvements. They’ve also considered using the gyroscopic controller, but they haven’t decided on it yet, so details about it are still fuzzy.
Another thing that this guys considers a lot is fan feedback. He says:
In Japan we have questionnaires with each Gundam game, and people do send in suggestions and things like that. We actually take them really seriously when working on new titles, as theyÂ’re our market after all.
However, at the latter part of his Gamasutra interview, he kids that his ideas still monopolize the game output. So guys, if you’re thinking that this guy doesn’t know how to fool around, you’re dead wrong. But one thing he doesn’t mess around with is the upcoming Gundam title for the SP3, so we can expect it to blow our socks off when it’s finally released.
