In-game-advertising on the Playstation 3?

Uh-oh…while the “region free PS3 games” announcement was an unexpected but nice gesture by Sony, this one could turn out to be the downside. And it’s a pretty heavy one.

While talking about the PS3’s network features in his keynote speech, Phil Harrison hinted at in-game-advertising playing a “significant role in PlayStation 3’s future.”.

This, in a worst case scenario, might mean: We pay 50 to 60 bucks for our games and get a nice load of unwanted ads on top. Perhaps acceptable if we were dealing with reduced prices, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Let’s see how Sony plans to integrate this, because they must know this could really drag their reputation down if done wrong.
