The sledding flash browser game of Bostjan Cadez has become a phenomenal hit. In an interview with Game Set Watch, Cadez talks about how he was able to develop the 2D game Line Rider (now being ported to the DS and Wii) which features happy-go-lucky sledder, Bosh.
Cadez used to program AVS (Advanced Visualization Studio plug-in for Winamp) presets and VJ in clubs. From this particular experience, he managed to learn more about flash by doing little projects here and there.
He enjoyed laboring over procedural animation because it didn’t involve frame by frame “slave” work. Soon after this, he got bored fast because it became monotonous and predictive. He then thought about how he could bring together something which he could easily change with animated stuff which he could develop by just drawing.
Cadez got his idea from Anderas Gysin’s Cronodraw. He made a preset from it and repeated what he drew in an endless loop. He said, “it was a simply way of moving images by just drawling line.”
After he finished isoType, he saw that his sketch clicked with the people. The rest is history. If you guys want to read the full interview log, you can visit the link below.
