iPhone - Image 1Ars Technica reveals new info regarding iPhone OS 3.0, and it points to new voice control and feedback features set to come to Apple’s superphone. Not much else is known about the new  OS, but it looks like the new feature will provide not only voice synthesis, but voice recognition as well.

Going by the code name “Jibbler,” the new feature appears to be some form of enhancement to the exisiting iPhone SpringBoard that will support the new 3.0 Spotlight search. With a squeeze on the iPhone headset, users may record short voice segments into their iPhone, which Jibbler will interpret. At this point, voice synthesis can be used to perform the required action which is very reminiscent of the latest-gen iPod Shuffle.

The hands-free possibilities that this feature brings may not be new to mobile phones, but from the sound of it, Jibbler will be able to create a new, assistive user interface for those times that you can’t pull your iPhone out of your pocket.
