Japanese flies to Korea for PS3 fix; Sony halts supply

Korean PS3 - Image 1Sony has halted the supply of the PS3 in Korea. Say what??? What’s gotten into them? “Troubled by ‘reverse-importing’,” they are, it seems. Apparently, Japanese foreigners have been flying to South Korea in order to get the console at a cheaper price point. Koreans aren’t too happy about that.

The Korean 80GB PS3 sells for 448,000 Won (about US$ 325.00). Looks like they would like to keep their PS3s to themselves. The Japanese would rather have their share, nonetheless, given the much lower price that the PS3 goes for.

The units, however, differ in voltage. The South Korean PS3 is at 220/380 while the ones for Japan have 100/200. It’s not much trouble, though, cos a converter would be a quickfix for it.
