King of Fighters finally getting its live-action movie

Mai from King of Fighters - Image 1After running for 21 years, the King of Fighters franchise has definitely racked up a huge fanbase. About 30 arcade games and a bunch of handheld/console ports have already passed, and this cross-media adaptation is almost inevitable for a famous martial arts fighting franchise.

A live-action movie of King of Fighters is in the works, and it’s not gonna be from Hollywood (probably a good thing…).

The movie will be directed by Gordon Chan, a guy from Hong Kong who spawned other Asian martial arts flicks like “The Medallion” (Jackie Chan) and “Fist of Fury” (Jet Li). Axis Entertainment’s Joseph Chou (“Appleseed: Ex Machina”) and Convergence Entertainment’s Tim Kwok (“Wicked City”) will handle the production, while Chris Chow will be doing the screenplay.

The KoF live-action movie will see the light in Asia early 2008, while no plans for a western release announced as of now. Don’t worry though, it’s gonna be in English with authentic martial arts action.
