Kojima Productions: No more MGS4 trailers, all hands on making the game
Instead of sporting game fuel or going over-the-top with promotional stunts, Kojima Productions seems to hype the crowd up just by showing off sections of the Sony PlayStation 3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Sure, we hear of talks and interviews a lot, too, but every minute of a trailer speaks more of what a high quality game should be than PR folks can do.
Unfortunately, according to Assistant Producer Ryan Payton, the trailer we saw at the Tokyo Game Show 2007 could be the last. The good news? All efforts will be directed at finishing the video game.
In an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Payton discussed about the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trailers that never fail to capture hearts of gamers. “Making epic trailers of our upcoming titles has been a tradition of our studio ever since we unveiled the original ‘Metal Gear Solid‘ at E3 in 1997,” he said.
The reason behind the healthy amount of trailers, as Payton puts it, is because “the public expects that from Kojima Productions.” True enough, it’s not rare to hear people say any big industry event with thousands of enthusiasts and press people won’t be complete without Hideo Kojima‘s latest MGS project making an appearance.
After TGS ’07, we might not see any new trailers. “Creation of trailers usually takes weeks of hard work,” Payton said. When asked if Kojima Productions will be putting in more effort to these crowd pleasers, he replied, “TGS 2007 could be the last trailer for ‘MGS4.’ The pressure is really on to finish work on the game, and we have decided not to be sidetracked by any more promotional work.”
Putting publicity aside to focus on developing the video game? Looks like some companies could learn a thing or two from Kojima’s crew. You can also learn more from the full Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots interview by clicking on the Read link below.
