Korea invests US$ 200 million in video games

Korean gamers - Image 1Guess who loves gaming: Korea does! How much? US$ 200 million worth! Korea’s government is backing their country’s gaming industry with such a sizable investment until 2012, with the intent of expanding their game exports to US$ 3.39 billion a year.

Korea’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Minister Yu In-chon said in a meeting on Wednesday that they’ve got plans underway to drive the industry’s growth. Yu also mentioned that they reached US$ 1 billion in game exports earlier than they planned.

Yu promised to cook up 60 projects to give the gaming industry a boost, aiming to join the US and Japan as one of the top gaming markets. Now we’re all about to see how Korea really gets its game on.
