Kristin Kreuk to play Chun-Li in upcoming Street Fighter movie
Street Fighter fans anticipating (or dreading) the upcoming movie about the world’s favorite beat-em-up, here’s a bit of news that may or may not make you day: Jessica Biel seems to no longer be the actress being eyed to portray the legendary Chun-Li in the movie. Yes, she’s been replaced by someone who could probably give the high-kicking girl some justice on the silver screen. Check out who the new actress is in the full article.
Continuing the tradition of game-to-movie adaptations being some of the most head-scratching conundrums of all time is the announcement of a new actress being selected to play as Chun-Li in the upcoming Street Fighter movie from Hyde Park and Capcom.
Who’s the unlikely pick, you ask? None other than actress Kristin Kreuk who plays Lana Lang in Smallville. Yeah, that one.
While we can certainly think of actresses who seem more suited to the role – say Zhang Zhiyi for instance (Ed. note: or Charlene Choi) – upon closer inspection, it seems that Kristin Kreuk isn’t that bad a choice.
Her profile lists her as Half Chinese, she’s been nominated for the “Best Actress” position in the Teen Choice Awards, and she plays her role in Smallville pretty convincingly. It wouldn’t be that far of a stretch to see her play as one of the most iconic characters in the Street Fighter series. Let’s just hope they don’t take too much liberty with the other elements of the game.
