Mario Road v1.0 - from Lua to C - Image 1Homebrew developer Muhie, in collaboration with coder PHPnerd, drew up a C-coded version of Mario Road. The once Lua-based homebrew game for the Sony PlayStation Portable grew up nine major notches since its initial release and is now officially at its prime. But the improvements didn’t roll to a stop with Mario Road version 1.0, because a lot has changed since.

Aside from additional content (there are now eight levels to play through), several adjustments  were made to the early glitches exhibited by Mario Road version 0.1:

  • Bowser’s sprite now changes when he changes direction;
  • Mario’s no longer allowed to sneak away from view )he cannot escape past the edges of the screen); and,
  • Sometimes running over bananas won’t deduct points – now they do.

There’s also a Pause screen to take a breather from the action, though you may not need so much since Bowser’s movement has been cut down some. With C, PHPnerd and Muhie were able to make movement much smoother and fluid. Plus most content have received a makeover – that’s some of the graphics and the interface.
