In his interview with Eurogamer, Epic Games‘ Mark Rein talks about the many sides of the industry – from game development, consumer status quo, all the way to publisher strategies. Many interesting points were brought up, but one of the more notable bits of info gathered is his take on the PS3 price cut talk. Mark Rein reckons that with Sony‘s financial difficulties this year, a price cut was out of the question.
When asked for comment on Bobby Kotick’s remark on having to stop supporting the PS3, Rein believes that it came out of frustration that Activision‘s games have not sold on the PS3 as well as it did on the Xbox 360.
I think he’s just frustrated in that he hasn’t sold seven or eight million, like he has on 360. The truth is Sony has had a difficult year and I think they had to do what they had to do to try to be profitable. They have their own financial issues to solve and lowering the price of the console would probably have made their situation worse. They will get around to it in their own good time. If you’re willing to look at this as a long-term play, they’re going to be just fine.
As far as that elusive price cut goes, there’s still no official word from Sony, but that’ not stopping those who are still clamoring for the reduced PS3 price.
