Marvel: Ultimate Alliance preview and screenshots

When Activision announced that they will be coming out with Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, a lot of gamers immediately thought of it as just X-Men Legends III with Spiderman in it. Well, we’re not here to judge, but according to IGN, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is so much more than that. They were able to play with the game for a few hours and have dubbed it as the ultimate “Marvel geek’s wet dream.” Yeah-huh, it’s that visually loaded and goo-hood, AND Pitfall is in it too.

The guys over at IGN shares with us their experience of the game on the 360, but also shares some info about the PS3 version like how the tilt control will work with the PS3 Sixaxis. Their preview is quite extensive (it’s three pages long) so we’ll just give you snippets about the game features that seem to stand out and stuff that you might want to know.

The game will feature 17 different locations including the Mandarin’s house and the Underworld, and 20 playable characters which you can choose from to create and name your own team. Yep, you’ll get to name your own team so perhaps it’s time to reveal those superhero fantasies of yours and the uhh…ultra cool names you’ve been conjuring up in your head. There will also be unlockable costumes that will affect the gameplay. You can also switch spandex based on what you think you will need to get through a specific mission. If mission requires you to distract gay boss, then maybe the tighter the better. Hahaha.

More info and screens after the jump!

Anyway, we also think it’s worth mentioning that the classic Pitfall is “perfectly recreated” as a minigame in the Murderworld level. For those unfamiliar with Pitfall, it’s a game where the heroes are required to travel inside the game to obtain a specific item. We have yet to see this for ourselves but IGN reports that the 3D graphics bumped up to the 360 technology looks stunning.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance will support four-player online and offline co-operative play. You can switch to any open character and perform team-up moves with well-timed attacks. And what’s great about it is that you can easily enter and exit out of both the co-op and competitive play anytime you like. The game won’t be hitting shelves til October 24, and PS3 users would have to wait even longer, so if you’re planning on buying a PS3, start hoping that there won’t be any further delays to the console’s launch.

Since we won’t be able to do much else while waiting, we’ve decided to give you these 12 new screens. You never know, maybe they might give you ideas on what to name your superhero team come October 24th.
