Check out the full article for your fill of numbers, figures and pie charts.
The numbers from Media Create are in, and the results are pretty much Nintendo-flavored. That’s right, Nintendo is once again doing pretty well in the charts, with the top ten software sellers occupied by six Nintendo Wii titles and three Nintendo DS titles (with the odd one out being a downloadable demo for the Sony PlayStation 3).
While we’ve had quite a lot of casual Wii games to deal with from Nintendo, they certainly seem to be doing something right.
So, to the dissection. Let’s start with the software division, with Mario Party DS headlining the Top 10. Wii Fit, Nintendo’s answer to Couch Potato Syndrome, comes in at the second spot. The downloadable demo of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Sony’s lone title in the Top 10, sits comfortably at the third position – and considering that it’s topped classics like Wii Sports and Super Mario Galaxy, that’s pretty incredible. The list is then rounded out by a heavy concentration of Wii titles, the last being the recently-released Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon: the Labyrinth of Forgotten Time by Square Enix.
For the hardware division, the Nintendo DS is yet again the king of the hill, scoring 222, 144 units sold this week. The Sony PlayStation Portable is catching up, with 184, 610 units being checked out. Following closely behind yet still leading the console sales war is the Nintendo Wii, with 170, 558 sales – the motion-sensing console enjoying a lead that can only be charitably described as “ample” when compared to the Sony PlayStation 3’s 63, 720 and uncharitably described as “massive” when put beside the Microsoft Xbox 360’s 8, 561.
When compared to last week’s sales, however, both the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 is doing pretty good this holiday season.
Certainly a very interesting set of figures indeed. Readers should take note that this is only for Japan, and the standings themselves could change drastically after NPD‘s released their own results. In the meantime, you can check out the full list and numbers by clicking on the via link below.
