Memo Hints the Wii Release Date Will Be Announced Soon

We previously reported that Nintendo will wait until September to announce the official date of the Wii release. Yes, they’ve been rather vague about it (all that Yasuhiro Minagawa, a spokesman for the Kyoto-based company, said was: 1) they will release the console during the last quarter of this year, and 2) they will announce the exact release date when September comes along).

Since some people cannot leave it alone, we reported about theories of when the release might be (some say the Wii will hit stores in October and others say November).

So you might want to take a gander at this memo:

Read it again:

  • This isn’t that big a deal. It just says that Nintendo will be contacting stores starting August 14 about the installment of the Countdown Clocks. It does not say that Nintendo will tell the stores what time to set the countdown to.
  • If they start contacting stores this week, then all stores should have a Countdown Clock by September. Then Nintendo will announce the release date in September (like how Mr. Yasuhiro Minagawa promised). Then all the Clocks will be turn ed on.
  • Our opinion: Wal-Mart has a game estimated for October, and since we do love shopping at Wal-Mart (don’t laugh), we’re betting October. But that’s just (some of) us.
