Microsoft ceases Xbox 360 HD-DVD player manufacturing
Microsoft Games’ Global Marketing team has released another statement regarding the HD-DVD format and placed the final nail in the coffin. There will no longer be newly manufactured HD-DVD add-ons for the Xbox 360, though warranties are still good while they last. Head over to the full article for more details.
Through its Gamerscore Blog, Microsoft Games’ Global Marketing team just announced that the platform-holder will no longer manufacture HD-DVD players for the Xbox 360. As previously stated, Microsoft doesn’t expect any material impact on its gaming platform.
Current owners of the HD-DVD add-on can still enjoy standard product and warranty support, while those who want to adopt the high definition format can find the Xbox 360 HD-DVD players with reduced prices.
Rumors have been flying around regarding Blu-Ray compatible Xbox 360 units in the works, and a Microsoft executive expressed his willingness to pick up the former competing format if the industry giant’s supported HD-DVD is to fail. However, as of now, Microsoft stands by its decision to offer customers a high-def experience through several other ways such as digital distribution.
