Midway closing LA studio, moving operations to San Diego
Midway has announced that it will be merging its San Diego and Los Angeles Studios by this September. Among other things, this merger may have a direct effect on the work of the development team behind TNA iMPACT! (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii). Further details on this announcement are available in the full article.
Midway Games has announced that it will be merging its Los Angeles and San Diego studios by September 30 of this year. As a result of this transition, Midway’s Moorpack-based LA studio will be closing up shop, with the majority of its employees being offered to transfer to the Midway Home Entertainment office.
The company PR further clarified that the entire development team of their TNA iMPACT! game (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii) is expected to be part of the move. It is hoped the transfer will help the dev team better coordinate with Midway’s remaining studios in Chicago, Austin, Seattle, and Newcastle, UK.
The move is also expected to help the team work in close conjunction with the San Diego office’s third party production, licensing, and quality assurance groups. TNA iMPACT is currently expected to arrive on this September, the same month the dev team’s move will be taking place. That aside, Midway didn’t indicate if the move may also affect their other upcoming title, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
