GamerSquad has scored an interview with Mitsuo Kodama, Valhalla Knights‘ producer and visual director, who gives quite a lot of info on the game. The game’s already out in the U.S. and is being prepped for its European release, so this is more for those gamers who have yet to try Valhalla Knights out.

Anyway, on to the interview. One of the most important aspects of the game lies in the player’s ability to raise the level and combat effectiveness of his or her team. “You can’t clear this game without raising your team, said Kodama. “The secret of this game is how strong you can raise your characters during your adventure.”

To do that, players must explore numerous dungeons, dispatch a lot of enemies and collect various rare items. “In Valhalla Knights, you can go forward by clearing quests,” said Kodama. “Meanwhile, the story moves on. So, you donÂ’t need to pay attention in order to move the story, just move yourself freely. The further you explore, the more you can understand the story.”

Valhalla Knights is, in Kodama’s words, “real-time combat but based on turn-based format”. This kind of hybrid system was chosen for the game so that “players can instinctively choose what he wants to do in the battle.” The action factor also helps make a “combination of training characters and expression of battle royal.”

Valhalla Knights also includes various gameplay modes. One of these is Versus mode. Losing in this mode doesn’t affect the main mode, so players can use it to gauge a dungeon’s difficulty. Co-op mode, meanwhile, lets two players join forces to tackle a dungeon. The party that the player is using in the main game will be the one used in co-op mode.

Kodama also revealed that the main scenario in Valhalla Knights can be cleared in 48 hours but players can still choose to continue playing even after completing the main mode. Load times are reportedly minimal except for a pretty long instance at the start of the game. Once players get through that, though, Kodama said that long loading times won’t be an issue anymore.
