More confirmations of PS3 price drop from Target, Best Buy

PS3 - Image 1Following rumors of Circuit City offering Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles with US$100 slashed off their tags, Target and Best Buy moles are chiming in with word that the buzz is true.

Kotaku reports that a Target mole has had a look at the store’s inventory program where the machines are listed in at US$499.99. The Best Buy source, on the other hand, claims to have seen upcoming ads where PS3s are priced in the exact same way.

This comes amidst Sony President Ryoji Chubachi’s efforts to pour water into the blaze as he reveals that there are no such plans in the company’s forefront, at least for now.

“At present we have no plans [to cut the PS3 price],” said the Japanese electronics giant head. He also said that the company intends to achieve a 5 percent operating margin during this fiscal cycle.

The PS3’s price point is perceived by many analysts and consumers as the stumbling point of the console. A move downward for the costs is seen as a key factor in curbing the surging sales of Nintendo’s innovative and low-priced Wii. We’ll keep you posted as soon as news is at hand.
