Xbox360Fanboy reports that they have contacted a couple of Gamestop higher-ups and they were able to get more information about the Xbox 360 trade-ins for the Xbox Elite. Their confirmation seems to be consistent with our previous tip-off from Kaiser_911 (with a bit of discrepancy with the Original Xbox rate). Since the trade-in promotion is said to start today, you’ve got some decisions to make. And you got to make them quick because, as Kaiser_911 pointed out yesterday, Xbox Elite units are limited.

Now, will handing over your 20GB (and paying an additional price) for a 120GB be worth it? Depends on your situation and your own reasons; only you can be the judge of that. To help you make the decision though, here’s the 411 on the 360-to-Elite “exchange rate” in Gamestop (U.S.):

Premium 360 -> US$ 250 in-store credit
Core 360 -> US$ 200 in-store credit
Original Xbox -> US$ 50 in-store credit

As clearly seen above, there’s an “in-store credit” clause, which basically means that, if you trade in your console for the credit, you can use this to purchase anything they have up for sale. If you want to use your credit for, say, buying some other games, then by all means, it’s your call. But to begin with, as Xbox360Fanboy points out: “what other reason would you have for selling your 360?”

There does not seem to be any stipulation that you’d have to trade-in a working unit… so those of you who are having woes over three red lights, maybe you can… pass it over to Gamestop? Just make sure you call them before heading out the house though. Chances of them taking a non-working unit are zero-to-nil, but you guys can still hope!
