More Wiimote-robot arm hijinks (with the world’s largest Sensor Bar)

If Ellen Ripley controlled her iconic exosuit-forklift in “Aliens” with a Wiimote (okay, maybe she should have just thrown the Wiimote at the Queen for even more massive damage, but anyway…). Seems like Wiimotes are more and more being used in applications that do not involve the use of the Wii console. Engineering and programming students everywhere keep coming up with new demonstrations of controlling various robots with Wiimotes.

Like this relatively recent one from YouTube user noripcord7. His Wiimote is controlling a MiniMover 5 robot arm as part of his team’s electromechanical design class in the Univ. of Michigan. Rather than use a reworked GlovePIE like the other robot arm (because in class, that would be cheatish), this one uses a Linux program written up in Python and their “world’s largest sensor bar.”

Okay, if one day we report on an acute Wiimote shortage (as opposed to a Wii shortage), you should know by now where they’ve all gone. Now, if only we had an Alien’s neck to crush…
