Namco Bandai renames Wii Fit Trainer to Active Life: Athletic World
We first learned about the WIP video game Wii Family Trainer when Namco Bandai announced it to the Japanese press a couple of days ago. During the on-going Tokyo Game Show 07, the company re-announced the said title and packaged it under the new name Active Life: Athletic World.
The new name of the game only confirmed our previous speculation that Namco Bandai decided to resurrect the NES game Athletic World. During its time, it was considered revolutionary in its own right as it needs an additional peripheral (Power Pad) to run. Likewise, its latest iteration also requires a custom mat controller.
This additional controller will be used in combination with the Wiimote in performing the 10 different athletic challenges and various multiplayer games included in the title. The mat will have a total of eight sensors for feet movement. Needless to say, the Wiimote will be used to simulate hand gestures.
Namco Bandai Executive VP and COO Makoto Iwai said, “By combining the motion-based Wii Remote and a custom gaming mat to create an entirely unique gaming experience, Active Life: Athletic World delivers unprecedented interactivity as players use their whole body to take control of the game.”
Aside from the already said features, Active Life: Athletic World will also keep track of each player’s in-game progress coupled with personal details as well as best scores and times. Competitive and multiplayer challenges for up to two players will also be available.
