Netflix keeps quiet on Xbox Live speculation
For those of us who like bumming out in front of our TVs just as much as we like bumming out in front of our consoles, here’s an update on the whole Netflix–Microsoft deal: Netflix is keeping mum on rumors that it’s made a deal with Microsoft to release downloadable movies and TV shows on Xbox Live. The silent treatment, eh? Check out all the details in the full article.
If you’ve heard the rumors circulating about Netflix gearing up to announce a deal it has made with Microsoft to offer downloadable feature films via Xbox Live, then prepare to stew a little bit longer as Netflix has officially neither confirmed or denied those rumors. Yes, they’re staying mum about the entire thing, and we can’t blame them – as this thing is going to be big if it does go over.
What’s the basis of these rumors, you ask? First off, the joining of Netflix CEO Reed Hastings into the Microsoft board of directors. Then, there are the surveys sent to Netflix subscribers asking if they’d be interested in watching movies and TV shows on Xbox 360s. That enough basis for you?
If it isn’t, then consider this statement from a Netflix spokesman: “Netflix intends to be on many devices that get the Internet to the TV.”
And as we all know, quite a lot of people are into Xbox Live, so it’d make a whole lot of sense if they went through with the entire deal. Updates as we get them.
